Hostinger Review: What We Learned Hosting Client Sites on It for Years

Network cables and servers, the hardware behind our Hostinger review

This Hostinger review comes from an agency that actually uses the product, not from a weekend test account. At Design Fly 24 we have hosted client websites on Hostinger for years: consultants, keynote speakers, security firms, HR practices, theatre companies and local businesses. We set the hosting up, move sites over, and keep them running.

Disclosure: Some links in this article are referral links. If you sign up through them, Design Fly 24 may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend hosting we use for our own clients.

So we have seen the good days and the annoying ones. We have restored backups after a client’s plugin update went sideways, given developers access without passing passwords around, and moved sites from older hosts that were slow and confusing. This review is what we would tell a client over coffee if they asked whether Hostinger is worth it.

Short answer: for most consultants and small businesses, yes. Long answer: read on, because there are a few honest drawbacks you should know first.

Key takeaways

  • Our Hostinger review verdict: it is our top pick for consultants and small business sites.
  • LiteSpeed servers, NVMe storage and preconfigured caching make WordPress sites fast without fiddling.
  • Security basics are covered: free SSL, a firewall, malware scanning and DDoS protection.
  • Entry plans back up weekly. Business plans and above back up daily, which is what we recommend.
  • There is no phone support, and renewal rates are higher than the first term, so plan ahead.

Why we wrote this Hostinger review

Most hosting reviews are written by people who signed up for a month, ran a speed test and moved on. That tells you very little about what living with a host is like. The real questions show up later: what happens when a site breaks on a Friday night, how easy it is to find a backup, whether a client can manage their own email without calling us.

This Hostinger review is based on that day to day experience across many client sites. We will not quote benchmark numbers or uptime percentages, because those change and are easy to cherry pick. Instead, we will tell you what we have seen work, what has frustrated us, and who should choose something else.

If you are still comparing several hosts, start with our broader guide to the best web hosting for small business, then come back here for the detail.

1. hPanel: the control panel clients can actually use

Hostinger built its own control panel called hPanel instead of using cPanel. At first that made us a little nervous. Now it is one of the main reasons we keep using it, and a big part of this Hostinger review verdict. If a Hostinger review skips the control panel, it skips the part you will touch most.

hPanel is clean and logically arranged. Websites, domains, email and billing each have their own area, and the most common jobs (installing SSL, adding an email account, checking a backup) take a few clicks. It also shows real time resource monitoring, so you can see whether your site is close to its plan limits before it slows down.

In any Hostinger review written for busy owners, this matters. A busy consultant can log in, find what they need and log out without a support ticket. Someone who has used cPanel for fifteen years may need a day to adjust, but most people find hPanel easier.

2. Speed technology: what is under the hood

Speed is where a Hostinger review should be specific about the technology rather than vague about feelings. Hostinger runs LiteSpeed web servers with NVMe SSD storage. WordPress sites come with the LiteSpeed Cache plugin preconfigured, so caching works out of the box.

In plain terms: the server software is designed to serve pages fast, the storage is quick, and the site keeps ready made copies of pages so it does not rebuild them for every visitor. Higher plans add object caching, which helps sites with more dynamic content.

No Hostinger review should pretend a host can fix a bloated site. Huge images, too many plugins and heavy page builders will still slow things down. When we build sites through our website design services, we size images, keep plugins lean and test against Google’s Core Web Vitals so the hosting and the build work together.

3. Security features in this Hostinger review

Every plan includes free SSL, so your site shows the padlock and no browser warnings. Beyond that, Hostinger includes a web application firewall, a malware scanner and DDoS protection. Those block a lot of automated attacks before they ever reach WordPress.

The feature we like most in this Hostinger review, as an agency, is Secure Access Manager. A client can give us (or any developer) access to their hosting account without sharing their password. When the project ends, they remove access. It is a small thing that makes agency work much cleaner and safer.

Hosting security only covers the server side, though. Someone still has to update WordPress, themes and plugins and remove what is not used. Our WordPress maintenance checklist covers that part.

4. Backups by plan level

This is the point in our Hostinger review where plan choice really matters. Entry plans include weekly backups. Business plans and above include daily backups. For a brochure site that changes twice a year, weekly can be fine. For an active site with a blog, forms and regular updates, we strongly prefer daily.

For this Hostinger review we can say restoring is simple from hPanel: pick the backup date and restore files, databases or both. We have used it after bad plugin updates and it saved hours of rebuilding.

Quick tip: Whatever plan you choose, keep a second backup somewhere else, such as a backup plugin that sends copies to cloud storage. Two copies in two places is the rule we follow for clients.

5. WordPress tools that save time

Our Hostinger review of the WordPress side is very positive. There is a one click installer, so a fresh WordPress site is ready in minutes. Staging lets you copy your live site, test a redesign or plugin update, and push changes live only when you are happy.

Cloud plans add SSH access and WP CLI, which matter to developers more than to site owners. We use them for bigger builds and migrations. If those words mean nothing to you, that is fine; you will likely never need them.

WordPress itself recommends that hosts support current PHP and database versions, which you can read on the official WordPress requirements page. hPanel lets you change PHP versions yourself when needed.

Staging and one click installs make routine WordPress work faster for us and for clients.

6. Domains and business email

On annual or longer plans, Hostinger includes a free domain for the first year, with WHOIS privacy so your personal details are not listed publicly. Some plans also include free business email for the first year.

For a solo consultant, having website, domain and email in one account is convenient. As a firm grows, many move email to Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 and keep the site on Hostinger. Both setups work. If you have not picked a name yet, read our guide on how to choose a domain name.

7. Support: good chat, no phone

Hostinger offers 24/7 support through live chat and email. There is no phone support. In this Hostinger review we want to be clear about that, because some clients really want a phone number to call.

In our Hostinger review notes, chat has been mostly good. You can paste error messages, attach screenshots and keep a written record of what was said. Simple questions get answered quickly. For tricky WordPress problems, you may need to explain things clearly or escalate, which is true of almost every host.

One habit helps a lot: before you open a chat, write down what changed, when the problem started and the exact error text. Support teams solve a clear two line description far faster than “my site is broken.” We do this for our clients, and it usually turns a long chat into a short one.

8. AI helpers: Kodee and the website builder

Hostinger has added AI tools, which no recent Hostinger review can ignore. Kodee is an AI assistant inside hPanel that can answer questions and help with common tasks. There is also an AI website builder for people who want a simple site without WordPress.

Our Hostinger review take: Kodee is handy for quick “where do I find this” questions. The AI builder can be fine for a basic placeholder page. For a consultant whose website needs to win serious clients, a properly planned and written site will do far more for you than a generated one.

9. Data center locations

Hostinger has data centers in the US (including New York), Europe, Asia and South America. You can pick where your site lives. For our US clients we choose a US location, and for clients who mostly serve Europe, a European one.

This is a small choice that people often skip at signup, and almost no Hostinger review mentions it. If most of your buyers are in the US, make sure your site is not sitting on a server on another continent.

10. The 30 day money back guarantee

Hostinger offers a 30 day money back guarantee. That gives you time to move a site over, test it and decide whether it suits you. Read the terms on their site, since things like domain registrations are usually handled differently.

Speaking of terms, renewal rates are higher than the first term. That is normal across the hosting industry, but it still catches people out. Choosing a longer first term, or budgeting for the renewal, avoids a surprise later. Check current pricing on their site rather than relying on any Hostinger review, including this one.

Our top pick: HostingerFast LiteSpeed servers, free SSL, an easy control panel and 24/7 support. It is what we use for most client sites.

Moving an existing site: a Hostinger review of migrations

Most of our clients do not start fresh. They arrive with a site on an older host, often with a domain at one company and email at another. So any useful Hostinger review has to cover what moving actually looks like.

hPanel makes the new account easy to prepare before anything moves. Our own process is simple: copy the site, test it on a temporary address, check forms and email, then point the domain over. We keep the old hosting live for a few days as a fallback.

The part that trips people up is email. If your mail lives with the old host, plan that move separately so nothing gets lost during the switch. This is where a lot of owners decide to hand the job to us, and honestly, that is a sensible call.

Who Hostinger is for

Based on everything in this Hostinger review, it fits:

  • Consultants, coaches, speakers and expert witnesses with a professional site of up to a few dozen pages.
  • Small firms and local businesses that want one account for site, domain and email.
  • Agencies and freelancers who manage several client sites and need safe shared access.
  • Owners who want a simple dashboard and do not need a phone line for support.

Good hosting is boring. You set it up, it works, and you spend your time on clients instead of servers.

Who should pick something else

A fair Hostinger review should also say who it is not for. Consider a different host if:

  • You need phone support. Some hosts, including several premium managed WordPress providers, offer it.
  • Your site is large and central to revenue. High traffic membership sites or big online stores may be happier on premium managed hosts like WP Engine or Kinsta.
  • You want to pick your own cloud provider. Cloudways suits technical owners who want that control.
  • You want a very WordPress focused support team. SiteGround is well known for that.

Our guide to the best WordPress hosting compares those options in more depth.

How to get started with Hostinger

If this Hostinger review has you leaning towards it, here is the setup order we follow for client sites:

  1. Go to Hostinger and compare the current plans. For an active business site, we suggest Business or above for daily backups.
  2. Choose a longer first term if it suits your budget, and note the renewal date.
  3. Claim your free domain if your plan includes one, or connect a domain you already own.
  4. Pick a data center close to your clients, such as a US location for US buyers.
  5. Install WordPress with the one click installer and turn on two factor login for your hosting account.
  6. Check that SSL is active and that LiteSpeed Cache is running.
  7. Set up business email, or connect Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
  8. Create a staging copy before any big design or plugin change.
  9. Give your developer access through Secure Access Manager instead of sharing your password.

Want us to handle it for you?

Plenty of our clients read a Hostinger review like this one, nod along, and then say “can you just do it?” Yes, we can. We set up Hostinger accounts, migrate existing sites without losing content or email, and keep everything updated and backed up through our WordPress maintenance services. You can see sites we have built on our work page.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hostinger good for small business websites?

Yes. In our experience it is a strong fit for consultants and small businesses, with fast servers, free SSL, solid security and an easy control panel. That is the main conclusion of our Hostinger review.

Does this Hostinger review cover phone support?

Yes. Hostinger does not offer phone support. Help is through 24/7 live chat and email, which we have found responsive for most issues.

How often does Hostinger back up my site?

Entry plans back up weekly. Business plans and above back up daily. For active business sites we recommend daily backups plus a second copy stored elsewhere.

Is a Hostinger review enough to decide, or should I test it?

Use a Hostinger review like ours to build a shortlist, then test. Hostinger’s 30 day money back guarantee gives you time to move a site over and see how it feels.

Can Design Fly 24 set up Hostinger for me?

Yes. We set up hosting, move existing sites, configure email and SSL, and maintain everything afterwards so you do not have to log into a control panel.

Our honest verdict

After years of hosting client sites on it, our Hostinger review comes down to this: fast, secure, easy to manage and good value for consultants and small businesses. Pick a Business plan or higher for daily backups, plan for the renewal, and be fine with chat instead of phone support.
