Google Business Profile in the UAE: Setup, Verification and Ranking on Maps

Quick answer: To set up a Google Business Profile in the UAE, list your real trading name in one language, use a staffed address customers can visit (or hide it as a service area business), pin the exact building entrance, and verify by the method Google offers, usually video. Virtual offices, flexi desks without staff and P.O. boxes are not eligible.

A Google Business Profile in the UAE should be the easiest marketing win you have. It’s free, it puts you on Google Maps, and it’s often the first thing a customer sees. Yet a lot of UAE profiles fail verification, get suspended or show the pin in the wrong tower. The cause is almost always the same handful of UAE specific issues: free zone addresses, bilingual names and buildings without a conventional street address.

This guide covers setup, verification and ranking, with Google’s own rules linked so you can check them. We’re a New York agency that works remotely with businesses in the Gulf; we don’t have a UAE office, but we set up and fix profiles for clients, and the rules below are Google’s, not ours.

Key takeaways

  • Google does not accept virtual offices or P.O. boxes. A coworking or flexi desk only qualifies if it has your signage and your staff during business hours.
  • If you serve customers at their location, set up as a service area business and hide the address. You can list up to 20 service areas.
  • Since mid 2026, Google’s guidelines explicitly disallow repeating your name in two scripts, such as English and Arabic, even if your sign does.
  • Video verification needs one continuous recording showing your location, your equipment and proof you manage the place.

Is your UAE business eligible for a Google Business Profile?

Start here, because eligibility decides everything else. Google’s Business Profile guidelines set out the rules, and three of them catch UAE companies more than any others:

  • Virtual offices. A rented address where you don’t actually operate “isn’t eligible for a Business Profile.”
  • P.O. boxes. Google says “P.O. boxes or mailboxes located at remote locations aren’t acceptable.” Many UAE companies use a P.O. box for mail; it can’t be your profile address.
  • Coworking and flexi desks. Allowed only if the office “maintains clear signage” and is “staffed during business hours by your business staff.”

So a free zone company with a flexi desk license, no sign and nobody at the desk can’t list that desk as a storefront. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a profile. It means you choose the right type.

Storefront or service area: choosing the right profile type

Your situationProfile typeAddress shown?
Clinic, shop, salon, restaurant or office customers visitStorefrontYes

Consultant meeting clients at their offices or onlineService area businessNo, hidden
Office customers visit and you also travel to themHybrid: address plus service areasYes
Flexi desk with no signage or staffService area business, or no profile until you have a staffed locationNo

For service area businesses, Google’s service area help page says you can set up to 20 areas, by city or region, and the overall area “shouldn’t be more than about 2 hours of driving time from where your business is based.” Radius areas aren’t allowed. In practice a Dubai based service company might list Dubai, Sharjah and specific districts it really covers.

Setting up your Google Business Profile in the UAE, field by field

Business name. Your real trading name, exactly as customers know it. No keywords (“Best AC Repair Dubai”), no locations unless they’re part of the actual name. And, new in 2026, pick one script. Google added a “Repeated Bilingual Names / Script Transliterations” rule to its guidelines, which disallows “repeating the same business name in multiple scripts or languages.” Search Engine Roundtable reported that the rule applies even when the storefront sign shows both. For a UAE business with “Al Noor Clinic” and “عيادة النور” on the sign, that means choosing one for the profile name and putting the other language in your description and website.

Address. Use the building name, floor and unit number, then area and emirate. Don’t add directions like “near the metro station” in the address lines; Google’s guidelines say not to put extra information there.

Pin. Drag it to the exact entrance. Dubai’s Makani system gives every building entrance a 10 digit number, and Gulf News notes it’s the official addressing system in Dubai and several other emirates. There’s no Makani field in Google, but you can use the Makani app to confirm the right entrance before setting the pin, then show the number on your website contact page.

Categories. Choose the primary category that matches what customers search for, then add a few accurate secondary ones.

Phone and WhatsApp. Use a number that’s answered during your listed hours. Google’s phone and text verification won’t work through an automated phone menu.

Hours. Match the hours on your door. Add special hours for Ramadan, Eid and public holidays before they start; customers notice when Google says open and the shutter is down.

Description, services and photos. This is where your second language belongs. Write the description in your main language and mention your services in both where natural. Add real photos of your exterior, signage, team and work. Our full Google Business Profile optimization guide covers every field in more depth.

Google My Business verification in the UAE

Google decides which verification methods you’re offered. Its verification help page lists phone or text, email, live video call, video recording, postcard and instant verification through Search Console. Video recording is a common option for new profiles.

What Google looks for in a video, according to that page:

  1. Show where you are

Start outside. Show the street, building name or nearby businesses so Google can match your pin.

  2. Show your business

Walk in to your signage, then show products, branded equipment, marketing materials or the tools you use to serve customers.

  3. Prove you manage it

Show something only staff can access: unlocking the door, an employee only area, a storage room or non sensitive business documents.

  4. Keep it continuous

Record in one take without cuts. Edited videos are a common reason verification fails.

  5. Then wait, and do not edit

Google says reviews take up to 5 business days. Don't change your name, address or category while it is pending.

Service area businesses can still verify by video; show your branded vehicle, tools and business documents instead of a storefront. If you have a website already verified in Search Console, check whether instant verification is offered first.

Why UAE profiles get suspended (and how to avoid it)

UAE suspensions usually trace back to a short list of causes:

  • Keywords or a location added to the business name.
  • A flexi desk or virtual office listed as a storefront.
  • The name repeated in English and Arabic.
  • An address that doesn’t match the trade license or website.
  • Editing the name, address or category repeatedly in a short period.

If you’re suspended, don’t create a new profile and don’t start editing. Read the notice, fix the cause, gather evidence (trade license, utility or tenancy documents, photos of signage) and submit one reinstatement request through Google’s support flow.

Ranking your Google Business Profile in the UAE on Maps

Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence, and says there’s “no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.” Once you’re verified, three habits do most of the work:

Reviews, steadily. Ask every satisfied customer, ideally on WhatsApp with a one tap link, and reply to every review in the language it was written in. Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. Our guide on how to get Google reviews has wording you can copy.

A website that backs up the profile. The same name, address and phone as the profile, a page for each main service and a clear contact path. For Galleria On Third, a Manhattan frame shop we built and support, the site shows the live Google rating next to the booking buttons and keeps name, address and phone consistent across its two websites. The frame shop case study shows the setup. Our local business website design service follows the same pattern.

Fresh activity. New photos, updated services and posts about offers or events show customers you’re active. They also catch errors before customers do.

Frequently asked questions

Can a free zone company have a Google Business Profile?

Yes. If your free zone office is staffed with signage and customers can visit, list it as a storefront. If not, set up as a service area business and hide the address.

Can I use my P.O. box for Google Business Profile in the UAE?

No. Google does not accept P.O. boxes as a business address. Use your physical location or hide the address as a service area business.

Can I list my business name in English and Arabic?

Not both in the name field. Google's guidelines disallow repeating the same name in multiple scripts. Choose one and use the other language in your description, posts and website.

How long does Google Business Profile verification take in the UAE?

Google says verification reviews take up to 5 business days, occasionally longer. Postcard codes, where offered, usually arrive within 14 days.

Why does Google only offer me video verification?

Google chooses the methods based on your business details. Video is common for new profiles. Record one continuous clip showing your location, business and proof of management.

Do I need a website to rank on Google Maps in the UAE?

Not strictly, but a website with matching details and service pages improves relevance and gives customers a reason to choose you.

A Google Business Profile in the UAE works the same way as anywhere else once it’s eligible and verified. The extra work is all up front: the right profile type for your license, one clean name, a precise pin and a verification video done properly.
